Enroll in our Peer-to-Peer Training
A metastatic breast cancer diagnosis can be life-altering. As a trained METAvivor Peer-to-Peer Group Leader, you can provide comfort, connection, and a sense of community to those living with MBC. Our training program will connect you to practical advice and insights for creating a local MBC support group, so you can learn from the experiences of seasoned leaders who have successfully nurtured METAvivor Peer-to-Peer Support Group chapters in their own communities.
Why should I become a METAvivor Peer-to-Peer Support Group leader?
Many breast cancer support programs do not meet the unique needs of metastatic breast cancer patients. Some exclude MBC discussions, limit participation, or deprioritize MBC-specific groups. We believe it is crucial for MBC patients to have access to reliable, welcoming, and safe support spaces where they can freely share their experiences and find understanding.
If you are someone living with metastatic breast cancer and there is not currently a METAvivor Peer-to-Peer group near you, we invite you to consider starting a chapter of your own. If there is already a group near you, we encourage you to contact the P2P leader in charge to see if they are need of assistance, and/or if another group may be needed nearby to help cover neighboring locations.
What would my duties be?
Your role as a leader is to coordinate logistics, outreach to recruit members, keep in touch with current members, be there for phone calls, rally support when help is needed, connect the group with resources, and be at all gatherings. The leader also provides a comfortable setting and varied activities for MBC patients to share advice, encouragement and challenges, and also simply relax and chat with friends who truly understand.
What support will I receive?
Through our Peer-to-Peer training, you will get access to downloadable flyers and sign-up sheets you can use to advertise and grow your group. Once established, your new support group will also be listed on METAvivor’s website on an interactive map, so you can be found by people in your community who are looking for support.
And you will become part of our Peer-to-Peer Leader Community—a closed Facebook group exclusively for trained leaders where you can exchange ideas, share challenges, and celebrate successes. Through this group, you can access resources, updates and tools for running your support group and be offered continuing education opportunities to ensure success. You’ll also get regular check-ins and ongoing support from METAvivor team members.
What commitment would be required from me?
After successfully completing our Peer-to-Peer Training Program and choosing to launch a group, we ask that you:
- Commit to serving as a leader for at least two years
- Identify and train one or more co-leaders, supporting workload coverage and succession
- Inform METAvivor of any leadership changes
- Complete post-training and annual surveys to help us refine the program
- Stay engaged with the leader community, offering support and encouragement to peers
