Letter from the President

Kelly Shanahan, M.D.

Thanks to you, our supporters, we are able to fund 14 grants in our 2025 grant cycle, totaling $3,550,000! Look for an upcoming announcement of the awardees. This brings us up to approximately 230 grants totaling almost $41 million dollars, since the first grant was awarded in 2020. Not bad for a grassroots organization with a volunteer board, most of whom are living with MBC!

Our advocacy team is hard at work, with Groundswell registration open – join us from the comfort of your own home, in letting our elected representatives know what is vitally important to their constituents with cancer.

Our new board members are jumping in with both feet and we’ll be sharing information about new projects and initiatives so keep an eye on this newsletter and our socials. Also, in order to better engage with our community, you’ll be getting a survey so we can optimize our subscriber list.

On a personal note, my cancer has progressed – again – and I am actively seeking a clinical trial. It looks like I may have to travel from my home in CA to Nashville, TN to enroll in the trial, but to riff off my favorite musician, Taylor Swift, that’s the life of an MBC girl. I lived in Nashville from ages 6 – 12, so it will be interesting to see if I recognize anything. And if you’re in the area, drop me an email at president@metavivor.org – I’d love to meet you!
