Virginia Riggs Berno

Virginia “Vee” Riggs Berno, 55, of Williamsburg passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 4, 2015.

Vee was a lively, devoted and caring wife, mother, stepmother, sister and friend. She lived her life with a deep faith and concern for others.

Vee was born at Fort Knox, Kentucky into a family with a long tradition of U.S. Army service and spent a portion of her childhood in Germany. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria and from Longwood College.

Vee represented the Commonwealth of Virginia as its Cherry Blossom Princess in the 1983 Cherry Blossom Festival. A lifelong Episcopalian and daughter of an ordained priest, she received a Masters Degree in Theological Studies from the Virginia Theological Seminary in 1986.

From 1988 to 1995, Vee was the Director of Worship Services at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. After her children were grown, she spent her leisure time with painting, travel, mah jongg, bird watching and crochet.

Vee was a member of the Two Rivers Country Club in Williamsburg. She is survived by her husband, William Berno, two daughters, Phoebe Kilgour and Jane Kilgour, a son, Scott Berno, two stepsons, Paul Berno and Andrew Berno, and a sister Dorothea Dickerson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Col. Theodore Scott Riggs and Rev. Ann Reeder Riggs, and a brother, Philip Riggs.
