Misty was originally diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer in May of 2009 at the age of 36. Her oncologist was very positive and her family rallied to support her. She underwent a double mastectomy & many reconstructive surgeries. She also spent the summer doing interventions Chemotherapy and Radiation. The following May she was officially in remission. Five years later in May of 2015 after Misty had been having some back pain she found out the cancer was back. This time it was Stage 4 cancer that had metastasized to the bones, specifically her lower back. Stage 4 meant she would be on some type of treatment for the rest of her life. She took an oral chemo pill that helped keep the cancer at bay for about 2.5 years when scans showed the pill was no longer working. After switching pills, battling headaches, seizures, nausea, and many other symptoms Misty received more bad news in May of 2018. At this time, she found out her Breast Cancer had now spread to her brain, and to her spinal fluid (leptomeningeal carcinomatosis). The prognosis was 1-3 months with no real life enhancing treatment options. Misty passed away on June 29th, 2018 at the age of 46. Despite all the obstacles, Misty lived life to the fullest with a feisty and positive attitude. Misty left behind her loving Mother, Husband, two-daughters, and three grand-babies. She touched many lives along her journey, and we hope to do everything we can by supporting Stage 4 research, this is our Family’s way of fighting back.
