Maria “Mary” Meo was born in central Italy and grew up in Sicily. She came to the US through Ellis Island and settled in NJ, then moved to East Boston to raise her three children. She was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer at 52, only to find out it spread to her ovaries a couple of years later. She sadly passed in 1980 at the young age of 56. I was only 7 when I lost my Nonna, she was sweet and kind and gave the best hugs. My family says that I am a lot like her. I was diagnosed at 32, stage 3b, IDC, it had already spread to my lymph nodes. Advocating for Metavivor and biking/walking/hiking for Miles4Metavivor in her honor and for all those I have lost over the years.
