Courtney McCollum

Courtney Sasser McCollum 50, of Decatur passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at her residence. She was born, July 21, 1971 in Huntsville, Alabama to James Donald Sasser and Linda Kennington Sasser.

Courtney graduated from Virgil I. Grissom High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Social Work From the University of North Alabama.

Sharing her love for reading with thousands of school children across the state, Courtney worked for 11 years as a Field Representative with Scholastic Bookfairs. Courtney had a servant’s heart, serving in various volunteer and service roles in the community. Being very family oriented, Courtney enjoyed spending time with her family and her bluetick coonhounds, Lucy and Summitt. Her hobbies included running, cooking, cake decorating, crafting, and following Auburn Football. Her passion was her family. She loved watching them play sports and excel in the classroom and in life.
In 2000 Courtney met her husband Tim. On June 5, 2001 they were married on the beach in Duck, North Carolina. Together Tim and Courtney raised three sons: Mitchell 27, Griffin 24, and Carter 19.

Courtney is survived by her husband, Tim McCollum; sons, Mitchell, Griffin, and Carter McCollum; brother, Donnie Sasser (Jacqueline); nephews, James, and Owen Sasser; mother Linda Sasser. She was preceded in death by her father, J. Donald Sasser.
