JOIN US OCTOBER 6-7, 2025!
The Stage IV Stampede is part of METAvivor’s ongoing grassroots advocacy efforts designed to raise attention to issues relevant to the metastatic breast cancer community with members of Congress. The Stampede is our biggest and most important event.
We’re calling all advocates, thrivers, caregivers, and allies:
Hill Day is back—and your voice matters more than ever.
An in-person advocacy event in Washington, D.C.
The METAvivor Stage IV Stampede is an annual flagship event held in Washington, D.C., to honor National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day and channel the passion of those who are impacted by metastatic breast cancer. For two days, we gather in our nation’s capital to provide a platform for a national grassroots movement to raise awareness of metastatic (stage IV) breast cancer, educate policymakers about the challenges faced by affected individuals, and advocate for advancing medical research and improving care. The Stampede welcomes the participation of anyone who is interested in standing up, speaking out, and using their voice to improve health, wellness, and survivability for the metastatic (stage IV) cancer community.
In the runup to the event, METAvivor will provide trainings and materials to empower you as an advocate. You will learn more about our legislative priorities and opportunities to drive change. You will also learn how to effectively use your voice and share your personal story to make a significant impact by:
- Urging your congressional representatives to allocate meaningful funding increases for medical research programs dedicated to controlling and eliminating cancer that has already devastated lives.
- Encouraging your congressional representatives to cosponsor and enact crucial legislation aimed at enhancing healthcare coverage and accessibility for the community.
A short training is also provided at the event, followed by a reception and the opportunity to connect with other advocates, patients, and supporters. Together, participants march to the Capitol and engage in a remembrance ceremony for loved ones, followed by meetings with legislators.

- Metastatic Breast Cancer 101: Understanding the Basics
Join us for an interactive session to better understand metastatic breast cancer (MBC)—breast cancer that has spread to distant organs. We’ll explore what MBC is, how it differs from early-stage disease, and how and when breast cancer spreads. Learn why subtype and biomarkers matter for treatment, how therapies are developed and funded, and key statistics on MBC, including gaps in U.S. data collection. This session is ideal for those living with MBC, caregivers, and advocates seeking clear, factual information to share with family, friends, communities, and elected representatives. - Advance Your Advocacy Skills Through Effective & Strategic Storytelling
You’ve probably already heard that the most effective tool in an adv toolbox is their personal story and you’ve likely been encouraged to “tell your story” to lawmakers, funders, and other important stakeholders. But what does this mean? Are all stories equally powerful? How do you prepare to hone your personal experience into a powerful tool to help you achieve your advocacy goals. In this workshop we will: discuss the elements that make for a powerfully persuasive personal story; identify our unique stories that connect to our advocacy goals; consider how audience and context shape how we tell our stories; and dedicate time to practicing our stories with supportive peers, sharing and receiving feedback. You’ll leave this workshop with greater confidence in your ability to effectively share your MBC experience with lawmakers and legislative staff from the very first meeting!
- METAvivor Advocacy Training
Raise your voice and drive real change by joining METAvivor’s Advocacy Training Program, your essential prep for heading to the Hill. This immersive training will equip you with everything you need to be an effective advocate: the latest on our legislative and regulatory priorities, what to expect when visiting congressional offices, and practical tips for sharing your story, making requests, and following up. Whether you’re new to advocacy or ready to sharpen your skills, this program empowers you to speak up for research funding, equitable care, and meaningful policy change.
Because every voice matters. And together, we’re unstoppable. - Driving Hope: The Critical Role of Research and METAvivor in Metastatic Breast Cancer
Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) accounts for nearly all breast cancer–related deaths, yet research dedicated to this stage of the disease has historically been underfunded and misunderstood. This session introduces the urgent need for MBC research and highlights how METAvivor, the only U.S. nonprofit dedicated solely to funding peer and patient reviewed research to benefit those already diagnosed with MBC, is changing that landscape through the 218 grants we have funded since 2010. Learn about the progress being made, why increased investment is vital, and how individuals and communities can get involved to drive discoveries that extend and improve lives.

CONSIDER BEING A STATE CAPTAIN
State Captains are responsible for encouraging MBC patients and loved ones in their state to participate in METAvivor’s advocacy events. Additionally, they are tasked with coordinating and scheduling advocacy meetings with the state’s two Senators. METAvivor will provide legislative priority documents and training so State Captains are poised to use their leadership, passion, and knowledge to mobilize the advocates in their group to take action and make a difference for the MBC community and the federal policies that impact their lives. If you are interested in being a State Captain, please make sure to notate that when registering.
