A virtual grassroots advocacy event
METAvivor’s GroundSwell is the FREE virtual sibling event to the Stage IV Stampede & Summit. By directly engaging with your lawmakers in Washington, D.C., you can educate them about the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patient experience, the policies METAvivor is seeking to change, and the crucial need for federally funded research on MBC. Bringing together patients, caregivers, family members, and supporters for an equally effective annual advocacy event, GroundSwell provides METAvivor advocates like you with training and support for impactful virtual meetings.
During these two weeks, advocates will schedule advocacy meetings with their own US Representative as well as attending meetings scheduled by the State Captain with your state’s two Senators. Members of the MBC community can make a big impact by sharing their stories and putting a face to the “why” behind passing important bills and legislation that can positively impact those living with metastatic breast cancer.
METAvivor’s advocacy team will provide legislative priority documents and training so all advocates are poised to use their passion and knowledge to take action.
Registration for this year’s event has closed.
Advocacy Training
Your voice matters. When it comes to influencing Congress, authentic constituent voices are powerful, whether they’re shared in person or through a screen. During GroundSwell, advocates from across the country will come together for two weeks of virtual Congressional meetings to ensure lawmakers and staff hear directly from those most impacted by federal policy decisions. As policymakers shape priorities around health care quality, access, research funding, and data collection, they need to hear from you. They may be the elected officials, but you are the expert, and no one understands the realities of living with metastatic breast cancer better than you.

This virtual advocacy training will prepare you to be an effective advocate in online Congressional meetings and ensure you feel confident heading into GroundSwell. You’ll learn how virtual Hill meetings drive real policy change, why personal stories are just as impactful as data, and how to communicate your message clearly and compellingly in a digital setting. We’ll also walk through what to expect during virtual meetings, best practices for engaging lawmakers and staff online, and how to prepare your story and policy asks in advance.
Your METAvivor Advocacy Team will support you every step of the way through providing training, preparation, and resources so you can show up informed, empowered, and ready to make an impact throughout the GroundSwell program.
Your advocacy makes an impact.
Thanks to your active participation in annual advocacy campaigns, along with ongoing engagement of legislators, METAvivor has successfully driven advancement and expansion of the federal metastatic breast cancer research portfolio.

CONSIDER BEING A STATE CAPTAIN
Each State Captain will be responsible for encouraging MBC patients and loved ones in their state to participate in METAvivor’s advocacy events. Additionally, State Captains are tasked with coordinating and scheduling advocacy meetings with the state’s two Senators. METAvivor will provide legislative priority documents and training so the State Captains are poised to use their leadership, passion, and knowledge to mobilize the advocates in their group to take action and make a difference for the MBC community and the federal policies that impact their lives. If you are interested in being a State Captain please make sure to notate that when registering. State Captain training will be held on Tuesday, February 10 at 1pm ET.
