As most of you certainly know, METAvivor’s key focus is increasing metastatic breast cancer research. Critical to that effort is raising awareness throughout the US of the lack of funding for stage IV cancer research and impressing upon people that we could indeed save lives if more proportionate funding existed. METAvivor believes the cross country journey, the meetings with researchers and the public and the media attention that will garner, will stimulate increased interest, support and funding for our cause.
How are we supporting our journey? Not one penny of our journey is being covered by donations. As always, 100% of donations will continue to go into our research fund. Thus our journey must be covered by sponsorships and donations-in-kind for hotel rooms, meals, travel vehicle, fuel, displays, and other costs. We have already received generous sponsorships for our journey from Astra Zeneca and Novartis - two pharmaceutical companies. This will be an immense help, but more assistance is needed.
Here’s how you can help!
Volunteer: We are looking for people to work in a variety of capacities. Check out the following and contact us if you can help in one of the categories.
• Media and Public Relations: We need people with experience in the media and public relations as well as people with strong social media and writing skills. We have a strong and experienced Director of Marketing heading up the team!
• Fundraising: Our Sea to Sea fundraising campaign will be 100% focused on raising funds for MBC research. We want to this event to be our best fundraiser yet, and it will operate on both national and local levels. Bring your ideas and volunteer to work on this critical committee!
• Awareness Campaign: We firmly believe that by making people aware of the enormous under-funding of stage IV cancer research, they will want to do whatever they can to change the status quo. Creating the plan to do this is an exciting undertaking you’ll want to be part of.
• Donations-in-Kind: Do you have connections with hotels, restaurants, vehicle rentals, airlines, fuel companies and documentarians? Or can you help us arrange a system whereby people can donate hotel points and miles to METAvivor? Get in touch with us to join our donations-in-kind committee!
• Documentarian: We are looking for an experienced documentarian, who will volunteer to join us on our journey with the goal of producing a film at the end. Rooms, meals and transportation will be covered.
• Drivers: Only a very small team will go on this journey … a minimum of two and a maximum of four. A team lead for every leg of the journey has already been identified. The second person in the vehicle will help with driving, putting up and taking down displays, carrying out events on location and other tasks along the way. This will be an arduous trip requiring the endurance to drive many hours daily, the strength to carry and arrange displays and the fortitude to keep working day after day for a minimum of one week and a maximum of two.
