METAvivor’s Sea-to-Sea for MBC – a cross-country caravan to raise awareness of metastatic breast cancer (MBC) – is ready to hit the road!
We will be departing from Annapolis, MD on April 15, 2015 on a six-week tour across the county. Along our route we will be visiting with all ten metastasis researchers who have thus far received METAvivor research grants through our peer-reviewed grants program. These will be informative visits to learn more about the current status of the research and to discuss the challenges facing metastasis researchers. At each stop we invite our supporters to come out and meet us!
Our current route includes research sites and patient and sponsor visits as currently planned. Research centers are in bold. Annapolis MD, Gaithersburg MD, Philadelphia PA, Woodcliff Lake NJ, State College PA 16 Apr, Cleveland OH 24 Apr, Columbus OH, Ann Arbor MI 28 Apr, Birmingham AL 30 Apr, Houston TX 4 May, Oklahoma City OK 7 May, Minneapolis MN, Kansas City KS 12 May, Denver CO 15 May, Salt Lake City UT, San Francisco CA and a grand finale in Los Angeles CA on May 26, 2015.
Critical to our success are local events. We want to get to know you and your community! Also, many local organizations, societies and clubs look regularly for interesting topics and presenters for their meetings. Check out your local community and see who might be glad to have you provide a speaker for their program. We can work within any time limits they set … short or long.
So … ready to be a local planner? Here’s what you need to know:
• The local planner is responsible for promoting local interest, arranging a location for an event, obtaining an audience (minimum of 15 – no maximum) and setting up sufficient seating. We encourage the local contact to speak at the event, telling his/her interest in or connection to MBC; however, this is not mandatory.
• The nature of the event is up to you! Some ideas include:
There are as many ideas as there are interested volunteers – you know what will bring your friends and people in your community out … plan an event around them and you’re sure to have a crowd!
• The caravan team will need a space (approximately 14’ x 14’) to set up our traveling displays. We will be responsible for setting up our displays and providing a 10-15 minute presentation on MBC and the METAvivor mission. We will answer questions and invite your guests to make a contribution to METAvivor.
• In addition to our visits and promoting awareness, our sojourn is also a fundraising campaign. Our caravan trip is made possible through sponsorships and donations-in-kind. We assure you that 100% of everything raised through our fundraising campaign will go straight into our research fund. Anything you can do to help raise money for the research fund would be greatly appreciated!
• If you wish to host a local event, please send an email to [email protected]. Include your name, location, phone number, and a brief description of the type of event you’d like to host. We will confirm dates with you and share our thoughts and ideas.
