My mom, Cheryl Luckman Simmons, passed away from metastatic breast cancer January 2025. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 at stage one. She was one of the lucky one’s who caught it super early and was in remission for seven years before her cancer came back full force. This time, stage 4, metastatic, it had spread to her liver and bones. She immediately started fighting harder than anyone I know. She went through countless treatments traveling back and forth from Florida to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas to get the best care she could.

She was not only the strongest person I’ve ever known, but the most positive. She never complained, and even with so much on her own plate, she always made the time to be there for others. She was a light in this life and I miss her more than words every single day.

She did everything right both times she was diagnosed. There was an extremely slim chance of her cancer coming back, but nonetheless, it did. And unfortunately, there’s still no cure for metastatic breast cancer. Thirty percent of all breast cancer patients will metastasize, but only 2-5% of research funding goes to metastatic breast cancer. METAvivor is one of the few organizations working hard to change that and help find a cure.

In honor of my mom, I’ve set up a fundraising page where you can donate to support the fight that she was so passionate about—finding a cure for metastatic breast cancer. Every dollar counts so that hopefully one day no one will ever have to go through what my mom went through or family has gone through. I appreciate your kindness and donations ♡
