Wang Shein (he/him) was the wingmate to his best friend / wife / thriver, Janice Choe, from high school until her passing in 2022 from Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a type of Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC). From diagnosis (stage IV de-novo), 10 days after their wedding at age 33, they committed to take every step together. They leaned on each other to defy odds, take on five treatment lines (12 drugs) and endless surgeries, grow, and chase life for more than 10 years – traveling, hiking, and serving the MBC community with no regrets.
Wang is an advocate for MBC patients & caregivers. He founded Unicorn Cancer Thrivers – a charity that improves quality of life for the MBC community, and serves on the steering committee at the MD Anderson Advanced Breast Center Clinic. He spoke at a large cancer charity event benefiting Asian Americans and underrepresented communities and on a breast cancer awareness panel at Google. Wang was also thrilled to have his MBC essay published in Wildfire magazine, which empowers the young breast cancer community.
By day, Wang is a program manager at Google Maps, enriching the lives and livelihoods of over 2 billion people. Before that, he was a management consulting leader at Accenture and Slalom, helping global companies deliver positive impact at scale through technology and analytics, with focus on pharmaceutical and life science industries.
Having been a supporter for many years, including a trip to Congress as part of METAvivor’s Stage IV Stampede event, Wang is honored to now serve on the METAvivor Board. He hopes to elevate METAvivor’s mission and impact by harnessing 10+ years of lived/deep experience in the MBC patient journey and a background in corporate business, tech, and consulting. Wang will also strive to be a diverse voice for not just patients, but also MBC caregivers and underrepresented immigrant communities (Asian, etc).
Wang lives in the Bay Area, CA, with two rambunctious Cavachon pups, and whispers to Janice during sunset hikes.
