Penny Sue (Smith) Endres, 52, of Pittsboro, passed away peacefully November 20, 2016 surrounded by family after an extended illness with metastatic breast cancer. She was a member of Venture Church. She had a passion for flower gardening, rescuing homeless animals, and music.
Penny was first diagnosed with breast cancer, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage I, on September 11, 2001 at the age of 37. She was in remission for just under 14 years before being diagnosed with metastasis to the liver that almost completely overtook the left lobe.
“I want my legacy to be: That I tried my best to educate others. That I went out kicking and screaming and never stopped talking about breast cancer (as a means of education) until my last breath. That I loved with all I had and had a deep passion for things…”
Penny’s legacy lives on. She was a huge advocate and voice for the MBC community. She was also the MBC October Spotlight for The Underbelly, an online breast cancer magazine aimed at revealing the raw, true nature of breast cancer and the damage it causes its victims. Some of her last public words can be seen here at http://theunderbelly.org/2016/10/penny-endres-mbc-october-spotlight/.
A celebration of life will be held at David A. Hall Mortuary in Pittsboro, IN on Wednesday, November 30, 2017 from 3-7 PM. In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations be made in the name of Penny Endres to METAvivor.org, Sweet Melissa Foundation, and Venture Church.
