Abigail Brooks Steelhammer, lovingly known as Abby, passed away on January 16, 2024, at the age of 54. She was born on October 7 and was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Gracie Brooks Steelhammer, whom she adored and cherished and Abby’s memory will forever be treasured by her family. Abby’s loyal companion, her dog Doolie, brought her immense joy and comfort throughout her life.
Abby was a lifelong learner and achieved numerous academic accomplishments. She held a Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as certifications as a Registered Nurse, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Health Administration. Abby took great pride in her career as a nurse and healthcare administrator, where she made a significant impact on the lives of others. In her free time, Abby found solace in the beauty of nature. She loved spending time at the beach and the lake, where she could unwind and appreciate the serenity of the water. She found great joy in watching her daughter swim and engage in various activities. She also had a deep affection for animals and enjoyed feeding birds, bunnies, and deer. She also had a love for flowers and plants and believed that these vibrant blooms symbolized the beauty of life. Abby cherished her time with family and friends, especially when accompanied by a glass of wine. She valued the connections she made and the memories created during these moments.
In early 2022, Abby received the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Despite the challenges she faced, Abby chose to remain positive and embarked on a journey of self-discovery. Her unwavering faith, boundless hope, and indomitable courage were evident as she fought the good fight. Abby’s absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. However, her loved ones are left with cherished memories and heartwarming stories that will forever keep her spirit alive.
